Given the recent scandal with regard to massive worldwide surveillance by US intelligence agencies, notably the NSA and UK's GCHQ including the monitoring of the phone conversations of 35 world leaders particularly German Chancellor Merkel, the reader will find the following short YouTube video very revealing.
Former Canadian Defence Minister Paul Hellyer asserts that the White House has lost control of huge swathes of strategic government sectors. To some this might come as a shocking revelation. To others this will be seen as just another ridiculous conspiracy theory. Others will have known this for a long time.

However, the conspiracy theorists have strong evidence on their side. We have a clear warning of the dangers of an over-powerful industrial military complex from one of America's most respected Presidents, notably General Eisenhower and the revelation of a "monolitic and ruthless conspiracy" from another great President, John F Kenney.
Those who believe that the massive US surveillance scandal is principally about spying are being deceived. It is not. It is about an inexcusable abuse of power, unwarranted secrecy and non-compliance with the law. It is not just about gathering information on potential terrorist threats. It is far more about gathering any and all information on everybody and everything and having a monopoly over its control. The President, by his own admission was not informed that Chancellor Merkel's phone was being monitored even though he has had several one to one meetings with her! If he is being kept out of the loop on such basic matters as spying on world leaders, what else is he not being told?
Despite all this intelligence gathering, the security services were not able to prevent the Boston bombing or the Nairobi Westgate terror atrack to mention but two. Probably too busy listening to Merkel's telephone calls! There is much more that can be said about these particular attacks but that is not what this article is about. It is about the inevitable abuses of power that always occurs and always will occur when power is cloaked in secrecy and let no one convince you otherwise. The nature of secret operations means it is far more difficult to monitor and hold to account those agents and activities that are hidden from view. It equally negates transparency.
This is really what the Snowden revelations are about. It is about abuse of power and our right to decide what our governments do or dont do in our name. Before Snowden we really did not know the extent of these nefarious activities. That right to know had been withdrawn arbitrarily and without our knowledge and far less, our consent. That is what this hoopla is really all about and its of vital importance we do not lose sight of it as it impinges on our democratic rights, our freedoms, our privacy and above all our right to hold our representatives to account!
Unwittingly, Snowdens's revelations have also highlighted a more disturbing question! Who is running America? How much does the President really know? Who is pulling the strings?

Risks of Genetically modified food - evidence

The Environment Minister Owen Paterson is backing genetically modified food - neglecting evidence provided in the longest independent study on genetically modified (GM) corn feed to date. The ground-breaking 2012 study links GM and the use of pesticide Roundup to organ damage and increased risk of tumours. Farmers and civil society organisations across Africa oppose it.
The UK government should suspend its funding for research into GM crops. Instead it should support agricultural research focused on sustainable, organic and traditional seed propagation developed by small-scale farmers around the world.
The risks of GM food and crops to the food system and human health have been downplayed by the UK government and the media.

Liverpool Care Pathway
This so called Liverpool Care Pathway is a travesty of all that the NHS is supposed to stand for and makes a mockery of the word "care".
My mother died in January 2010 and I now realise that she was effectively put on this diabolical scheme without our knowing then, that this was what it was. We were led to believe that nothing more could be done although following a discussion at the request of the family with doctors, they affirmed that they were unable to diagnose the precise cause of her condition. They could only surmise that it was due to a mixture of undefined causes due to old age. She was 85 and although she had leukaemia, we were told that many people lived normal lives with her condition with appropriate treatment and that it alone would not cause death.
Some weeks before she had had a fall in the garden but apart from bruising seemed none the worse for wear. A couple of days later she felt ill during the night and my father called an ambulance and she was admitted to hospital.
She appeared to be responding well but under the influence of painkillers tried to get out of bed right in front of the nurses station to go to the toilet and fell, breaking her hip. She underwent surgery and again responded well. Unbelievably, a day or two later, whilst in a private ward at the Musgrove Hospital in Taunton and again heavily drugged, she attempted to get out of bed to go to the toilet and inevitably fell again, necessitating a second operation!
Again she recovered remarkably well and three weeks later went home, managing to climb the stairs and getting around surprisingly well all things considered.
Some three weeks later she felt very ill and was readmitted to hospital and was never to leave. During the last seven to ten days, the family felt it was necessary to mount a 24/7 vigil at her bedside to ensure she was properly cared for. The best care came from agency nurses whose compassion, skill and dedication was notable by comparison to some of the permanent nurses.
My mother was a lovely, courageous and much loved lady. She was not given the opportunity to decide for herself whether or not she wanted to continue eating and drinking. A decision was made by the medical staff and meals ceased forthwith.
This is not care. This is politicians and doctors playing God and it is abhorrent and reprehensible. This is euthanasia in everything but name. When the life of the sick and elderly is treated with such cold blooded indifference it is no surprise that respect and standards of care suffer drastically as a consequence.
Ask yourself why the Liverpool Care Pathway was ever conceived of in the first place? What was wrong with NHS care that necessitated the introduction of this sinister scheme? Surely it was and is the duty of doctors and nurses to give the sick and dying the best care possible at all times anyway! Why do we need a special scheme? It is utterly ludicrous and totally unnecessary.
This scheme is a political and medical sham and whoever was responsible for it should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. It should be buried unceremoniously and never be spoken of or practised again.
Needless to say, although the doctors could not make a clear diagnosis while my mother was in hospital, they had no apparent difficulty stating the cause of death on the death certificate! I never understood that.
Lastly, those who invented this scheme should remember that one day, they may well be faced by it's consequences. Starvation is extremely unpleasant and cruel. The poor patients however are in no condition to express their pain. This is not care. It's torture in the name of saving money and meeting targets. It's disgusting.

Letter to the Rt. Hon. Jeremy Hunt - Secretary of State for Health
Dear Minister,
There are something's that are not for sale, one of which is healthcare. The prime objective of the NHS is CARE of the sick. The prime objective of private companies is profit pure and simple either by cutting costs, raising prices or compromising on quality or all three. The public are already fed up with the rip-off mentality of the now privately owned rail transport and utility companies. The food industry is equally guilty of serious negligence with regard to the health of consumers. Greedy banks along with complacent government have ruined the economy for everyone.
So as we can see privatisation is not the holy grail this government seems to believe it is. The government believes it can escape responsibility for it's own duty of care by handing it over to someone else, whom they can then blame if things go wrong. This is unacceptable. Healthcare is a social issue not a business enterprise.
The government must act with integrity to reform the standards of inpatient care and the efficacy of strong leadership on the wards based on the humanitarian principles that are the foundation of the NHS.
Outpatient services are generally excellent but at the present time there are many wonderful nurses and staff who are being badly let down by an uncaring ethos amongst some of their colleagues which then reflect on the service as a whole.
Your job as Minister is to make the NHS better, not offload your responsibility and work load to others whose main empathy is with money, not healthcare!

The Rise of Authoritarianism And The Theft Of Democracy

There was a time when the state was at the service of it’s employers, the people. It realised very quickly that it could use the tools of state to entrench themselves in power rather than use them for the betterment of society as a whole. They decided that government was not of the people but above and apart from the people and could be used not for the people but to control the people; by controlling financial markets, media outlets, dumbing down education, and brainwashing the police and military into believing their job was to protect the interests of the powerful against the masses. Hence the CCTV cameras, mobile spying units, data mining of social media sites for personal information, aggressive policing and menacing uniforms designed to instill fear and so on.
Brick by brick our democratic rights are being dismantled by stealth through deceit, distraction and division thus diminishing our power to decide our own future destiny. The state has stolen that power from the people and enhanced it’s own power thanks to the engineered apathy of the population.
However, there is a line in the sand as we have seen in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Greece, Spain and others on the rise, where people have decided to re-impose their will on the political establishment and show them where real power really resides. When the people rise the establishment has no choice but to run for cover and that is the ultimate reality that those who have stolen our power will have to confront. The state must be reminded of their subservience to the will of the people, that it is of the people and for the people.
In the meantime we must stop complying with the will of the state. Turn off the propaganda, get on with our own lives in our own way, stop jumping every time the state says jump, get out in the streets and protest and make our political representatives jump when we say so. Let them know we will be heard and they will listen.

FEMA and Democracy
American citizens and for all I know citizens everywhere are having their freedoms eroded by their government(s). There is no doubt about this.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is supposedly a citizen friendly disaster management agency. It looks anything but that. It's 2012 budget was close on $57 billion. What has the money been spent on? Well you can look at the budget and see what it says the money has been spent on or you can look at the hard evidence.
Just take a look at any number of videos on the Internet and what you see is very disturbing. You will see massive military vehicles, residential camps, many in remote areas, surrounded by double barbed wire fence perimeters and inward facing razor wire on top. You will see hundreds of thousands of multiple body "coffins". You will see senators unwilling or unable to answer simple straightforward questions who have co-sponsored bills they either have no understanding of or understand only too well! You will see FEMA officials stonewalling questions or refusing to make themselves available for questioning. You will see other officials squirming when caught out by "embarrassing" questions about whether or not one may or may not be on their watch list as a potential anti-government activist. This might entail nothing more serious than requesting right to know information on government departments!
We shall return to these issues a little further on. These things are disturbing enough but aligned to massive underground bunkers being built with accompanying airstrips and other infrastructure guarded by military personnel willing to shoot american citizens to protect those inside and we start to see something even more sinister. This is not a government of the people for the people.
Take a look at FEMA's track record on disaster management. Remember hurricane Katrina. Remember New Orleans. How many people are still homeless? Trailer homes remain vacant and unused. What did FEMA actually do when the massive recent storms overwhelmed parts of New York and other areas. I remember ordinary citizens mobilising themselves to help those in need and it was uplifting to see but what did FEMA actually do? Did they take the temporarily homeless into their "residential" camps and feed them? Did they use their massive trucks to evacuate those without transport? What did they do?
How many "residential" concentration camps have been built and where? How many people can they hold individually and in total? Why is it necessary to enclose these "residential" camps with huge barbed wire perimeters and razor wire? Why are there signs outside these camps warning that it is not permitted to take anything into the camps that may be used help those inside to escape? I thought they were "residential" camps for housing people in the event of disaster not prison camps!
What is this executive order creating the provision for the Council of Ten Governors and the creation of ten states from the 52? What happens to the other democratically elected governors? What happens to you? What happens to your rights? What happens to democracy? Will American soldiers be drafted in to impose martial law and licensed to shoot, imprison or torture anyone who does not comply? Comply to what? The theft of their democratic and human rights? What is this nightmare? Why don't you know about it? It's your country, your government, your #FEMA. You paid for every bit of it with your money, blood, sweat and tears! How dare they carry out their duties in secret? They are there to serve you in times of need, not dictate, control or manipulate the American public or create unregulated demonic self serving agendas. That this can happen in the so called land of the free is a condemnation of government and the so called free press! Why is this much vaunted free press not all over the politicians like a bad rash?
Why does a disaster management agency require massive military equipment? That's for the military to provide in time of need. Why does it require fusion centres to enable it to spy on ordinary innocent Americans going about their legal activities and expressing their right to freedom of speech or demanding accountability of those elected by them to serve them?
A disaster management agency is a co-ordinating body. It's job is to link other agencies together to cope with whatever disaster occurs, to co-ordinate. That is the management that is required. What are these agencies? They are essentially, fire, police, medical, transport, sea and air rescue, food supply and temporary accommodation for displaced persons.
FEMA is altogether something different. Why does it need a budget of close on $57 billion per annum? This is money that could be used to boost emergency services, stock food and medical supplies, build refugee camps and so on.
Who does FEMA answer to? It should be you. Why is it that it's activities are shrouded in mystery and secrecy? This is the most worrying aspect of this sinister operation? It's just an emergency management agency! Why the need for secrecy? It is the fact that everything FEMA does is hidden from public view that creates suspicion and mistrust in the first place.
This whole nasty business is very bewildering and the governments past and present are the main architects of their own loss of credibility and national trust. A government that governs secretly is not to be trusted by the people who entrusted it with the privilege of service. When government becomes secretive, it is by definition separating itself from the people. It is no longer serving the people who put it there but pursuing it's own independent agenda to extend it's power and control over the people. The people will not and must never tolerate such abuse of their faith and trust or they will soon find themselves enslaved by the system, no longer free men and women.
Why is the job of homeland security and emergency disaster management combined under FEMA? This makes no sense. Security has nothing to do with disaster relief. Whose idea was this and what was the motive behind this curious marriage of responsibility?
Lastly, who do the military think they work for? There job is to serve and protect the nation, not implement the agendas of the elite. They are not separate from society. They are part of it. They are ordinary Americans with a job, just like every other American. They are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters just like everyone else and they should not forget it and nor should the American people. Why are they so intimidatingly uniformed when on domestic service? The American public are their family not their enemy.
President Obama needs to go back to the drawing board and show the people he is their President and not a FEMA puppet. It would appear he is kept out of the loop on a need to know only basis. He needs to correct this misconception and get to grips with what is going on. He should haul these civil servants across the carpet and make it clear who is in charge here. Above all he needs to implement an effective monitoring system that ensures he is fully informed on the nefarious activities of government agencies. Why is the job of homeland security and emergency disaster management combined under FEMA? This makes no sense. Security has nothing to do with disaster relief. Whose idea was this and what was the motive behind this curious marriage of responsibility?
Lastly, who do the military think they work for? There job is to serve and protect the nation, not implement the agendas of the elite. They are not separate from society. They are part of it. They are ordinary Americans with a job, just like every other American. They are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters just like everyone else and they should not forget it and nor should the American people. Why are they so intimidatingly uniformed when on domestic service? The American public are their family not their enemy.
President Obama needs to go back to the drawing board and show the people he is their President and not a FEMA puppet. It would appear he is kept out of the loop on a need to know only basis. He needs to correct this misconception and get to grips with what is going on. He should haul these civil servants across the carpet and make it clear who is in charge here. Above all he needs to implement an effective monitoring system that ensures he is fully informed on the nefarious activities of government agencies. That is the job of the Chief Executive Officer of any organisation. It is he who should leading from the front and standing shoulder to shoulder with the people.

Peace is the way.
This article highlights the absolute futility of war. Politicians make wars, not people. Hamas is exploiting the Palestinian people to achieve their own objectives. They are so ruthless they are prepared to use their own people as human shields.
The Isreali government continues to flout U.N. Resolutions by building settlements on Palestinian land making any peace settlement more difficult. Furthermore, the Isreali government deliberately blocks peace settlements by imposing conditions it knows are unacceptable and unfulfillable.
Having initiated war to appease egotistic ambitions, unscrupulous, power hungry politicians of both governments hastily retreat to their bomb proof bunkers leaving innocent Palestinians and Isrealis to die in their homes and in the streets.
You will notice that just about every commentator, media or political, talks of the conflict as though it were between the people of Palestine and Isreal. This is a deliberate attempt by those in government and media to cast the people rather than the governments as the culprits. In truth the people have little say in the matter. They are being mislead and exploited by their so called leaders, none of whom understand the meaning or responsibilities of leadership.
These so called leaders are not humble. They are arrogant. They visibly lack wisdom, humanity, compassion or any understanding of their roles as leaders. The truth is that security can only and is only guaranteed by peace. They would have us believe that it can only be secured by superior force. This is a lie.
Never in the history of mankind has any nation succeeded in imposing it's will through the use of force over the longer term. War is the weapon of the inconscient and inconsience is the ignorance of wisdom. We have been fed lies for centuries by those that consider themselves the elite. Their only motive is their own insatiable desire for power and control. Ordinary people have been their pawns and have died in the webs of deceit they weave in order to attain their selfish goals.
The ordinary Palestinian people, like the ordinary Jewish people and ordinary people everywhere want a few simple things. They want food on the table. They want to be able to live and bring up their families in peace. They want education and they want friendship with their brothers and sisters around the world.
This is the role and responsibility of leadership and world leaders have and are failing abysmally in their sworn duty of care to provide peace for their people and humanity as a whole.
We are not Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Hindus or any other religion. This is another lie we are taught to believe to divides us all. We are not Arabs, Asians, Europeans or Africans. That is yet another illusion we have been brainwashed into believing. What we are is humanity. We are all without exception, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters and their Is no difference between us except in shades of skin colour and outward characteristics. Inside though we are all the same and we all want the same things. Above all we want peace.
It is our politicians that want war to accomplish their own selfish agendas and it is time for the people of the world, all over the world to take to the streets, hold hands and say long and loud, enough. Give us peace or we will follow no more. We will make the peace between ourselves. We will join together, walk together, play together, eat together, dance together and work together. We will build joint inter-communal groups and share this wonderful planet and all it has to offer, together.
That is the sacred duty of leadership.

Whatever happened to the BBC?
What happened to journalism? Thirty or forty years ago journalists reported events. Today they offer opinions about events. They stamp their own views on the consciousness of viewers and listeners. They opine. They seek the extreme edges of events, be they floods, earthquakes or some gruesome murder to sensationalise their so called reporting and better draw focus to their own over-inflated egos.
News programs today are packed with negativity. They present a one sided view of the world which is utterly depressing and totally false. A sop to cheeriness is added in an item about pandas or some other cuddly story in the last item of news. This is supposed to make us all feel better before we trudge off to bed, those of us that is, that are still watching.
We have no idea what casualties have been inflicted on the enemy in Afghanistan. We are never told but we know the names of every single one of our soldiers killed in action. Why? Did the media highlight the deaths of every soldier killed in WW1, WW2, or the Korean War. Of course not, that would have taken all day to read out. So why are the relatively few deaths of today's fighting men given such prominence? What is the purpose of it? If you listen to the news, it would appear that only our soldiers are dying. Our allies for all we know, have suffered few if any casualties. As for the enemy who knows? We certainly do not but the question is why not? Do the powers that be think we are idiots that we must only be told only what they want us to know, that we cannot be told the facts or that we should not be given the opportunity to make up our own minds? Who can trust an authority that tries so hard to maipulate the news and by inference our minds?
This is not news broadcasting. This is mind manipulation, media brainwashing and government propaganda. It's abysmal. It's depressing. It's unbalanced and therefore presents a false image of the world we live in. I for one have switched off.
I do not trust the integrity or the motives of those whose job it is to inform us. I do not want opinions. I want news and I want both sides of it not one. I want to hear what is new in the world of science, technology, art and what positive initiatives are being taken by communities and people in our country and elsewhere to make the world a better place. I want to hear about all the good that is going on in the world as well as the bad. I am sick to my back teeth of the garbage that is being fed to us by the television and paper media and so are most people. We are all gradually switching off.
I could go on about the endless dreary repeats that our licence fees paid for donkey's years ago. What are they using licence payers money for now? So mind numbingly dull are many of the programs, I now prefer to watch old black and white films! I hate to think how many times these have been repeated but they are at least better than the rubbish showing on other channels. They at least have a bit of drama in their storylines. I could go on about reality shows and the general dumbing down of the BBC and other networks but I'm sure you have got the drift, so I wont bother. I simply ask who will save us from these donkeys?
